MWNCI AR DAN / BURNING MONKEY

Between 14 January and 20 February 2008 Arad Goch Theatr Company will be touring a brand new production. The drama is called Burning Monkey.

At the heart of Burning Monkey is the story of a disenchanted young man who is searching for a better life, and his girlfriend, who has her own dreams. There is also a stranger, a grown up with a past who has a sad story to reveal. The drama raises issues about an individual’s responsibility to himself and to others, with emphasis, perhaps on the responsibilities that come with being a parent.

This drama follows in the tradition of Arad Goch’s recent work. The company specialises in theatre for children and young people and much of its recent output has been gritty and very relevant to young peoples’ lives today. Last year the company toured with its drama ‘Crash’, ‘Burning Monkey’ is by the same playwright – Sêra Moore Williams and she will also be directing the play. Sêra’s work has proven popular with young audiences and in particular with students and teachers – the work being not only relevant and interesting to them – but also extremely useful for examination work in English and Welsh Literature and Drama. Many youth club groups and individuals of all ages have also responded very positively to the company’s recent work and we are confident that Burning Monkey will further compound our reputation.

Details:
Dates: 14 January – 20 February 08
Language: Available in both English and Welsh (we will be preparing a learners pack for Welsh language learners as well as a general work pack)
Age: Suitable for all aged 13+
Length: About 1 Hour
Performance Space: Studio or hall or the stage of a small theatre

  Crash (2007)

hard hitting drama that will have you laughing out loud

Following the success of our short tour of this play in 2005 we have decided to tour Crash again, this time visiting a range of venues throughout Wales.

Crash deals with issues that are important to young people today - peer pressure, parental expectations, alcohol, drugs, homelessness, violence. What emerges is a piece that is powerful, lively and full of humour.

In a review Dafydd Prys commented: "Crash is a highly polished producion" and the author Meleri Wyn James commented on the 'buzz' and the laughter the play generates. Many young people who saw the play also expressed their enjoyment - "sound boys!", "lol" were two typical reactions!
Foreign delegates who saw Crash during the Open Doors Festival responded in the same way. The play is currently being promoted by a German agent and will be produced by several German companies this autumn.

Nid Fi / Not Me 2007

This project is a vehicle for raising awareness about the problems caused by bullying. It aims to help schools face up to the issue and most importantly offers help to the pupils on how to deal with the problem

‘Not Me’ is a play about the problems of bulling in our schools today. The victim, Sally Morgan is a very lonely girl. Her mother has died, and her father has moved to Dubai, therefore Sally lives with her grandmother, and she had to start a new life, in a new school, but not everyone was friendly towards her. We also learn that Lydia Thomas, the bully, has her own problems to deal with at home, and this explains her unkind behaviour towards others at school. By the end of the play, the two girls learn to forgive and forget, and a new friendship starts.
