
Arad Goch Theatre Company is based in Aberystwyth.
It employs eight permanent members of staff led by Artistic Director – Jeremy
Turner, and draws on the expertise of numerous artists on a freelance
basis.
The company also benefits from the support and guidance of its Governing
Board. Financial support is provided by the Arts Council of Wales,
Ceredigion County Council and Carmarthenshire County Council.
Arad Goch Theatre Company, established in 1989 and based in Aberystwyth,
is amongst the busiest touring theatre companies in Wales. Its main role
is to provide theatre for children and young people. Arad Goch’s
work draws on traditional Welsh material, combining this with current
themes and methods.
Arad Goch seeks to:
·
Experiment in order to create original, appropriate and contemporary
theatre of the highest standard by Welsh artists for young audiences
in Wales;
·
Tour public productions that are suitable for children, young people
and adults to theatres and other venues throughout Wales;
·
Present Theatre-in-Education to schools in Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire
and Pembrokeshire;
·
Present at least six new productions every year;
·
Present work in both Welsh and in English;
·
Present work in Wales written or directed by foreign artists;
·
Promote theatrical work by Welsh artists in other countries –artists
attached to the company have already performed in festivals and theatres
in Ireland, America, Denmark, Scotland, Canada, Austria, Sweden and
Singapore;
·
Organize the Wales International Theatre Festival for Young Audiences;
·
Develop partnerships and co-operations with other agencies. Agencies
with whom we have already worked include the NSPCC, Ceredigion Museum,
Social Services, the Welsh Books Council, the National Library of Wales,
the Welsh Development Agency , schools and colleges;
·
Commission other artists and writers to produce work for the company;
·
Offer support and resources to theatre artists so that they can develop
their own work

Community work:
Other activities are organized for children, young people and the community
such as:
· Drama Workshops after school hours for CHILDREN and YOUNG PEOPLE;
·
Creating new opportunities and organising COURSES to enable young people
to work with professional artists; over the past few years the company’s
work has gained a lot from working with groups of young people;
·
Occasionally offering theatre and drama activities to STUDENTS.
·
Working with SCHOOLS to offer workshops for junior and secondary school
pupils;
·
Offering TRAINING FOR TEACHERS; various courses are organised dealing
with how to introduce drama and theatre into the classroom, for example
whilst dealing with subjects such as history and language.
·
Welcoming pupils and students to spend WORK EXPERIENCE periods with us;
·
Offering LANGUAGE WORKSHOPS – providing language learning opportunities
through drama in schools
·
Offering training and leading drama workshops for AMATEUR GROUPS.
